Xepher on Expert

July 28th, 2007 shyam No comments

Today I accomplished something that seemed nearly impossible when I first stepped on the Dance Dance Revolution stage back in January. After 6 months of intense training (and probably hundreds of dollars spent at the game center near Suidobashi), I have finally beaten Xepher on Expert. :) BEHOLD:

Final Fantasy 2 – Raising Skills

July 18th, 2007 shyam No comments

I was recently playing Final Fantasy 2 (the real #2) for Game Boy Advanced. The skill system in the game is horrible. The more you use a particular skill, the better you get at that skill. This sounds reasonable, but in practice it is not fun and too repetitive, partly due to the random nature of the skill increase.

I basically avoided this by creating a setup shown below. I set the abilities/spells that I wanted my characters to use, then I found an enemy (usually something of the Flan variety), and did something productive for 20 minutes or so. The weight of the stereo speaker was enough to hold the button down, so my characters executed the same moves every turn. This yielded large skill increases without taking any of my time. Yay for productivity.

Robot Gems

April 2nd, 2003 shyam No comments

A Sokoban clone written in C++ and OpenGL. In the game, you are a robot. Your goal is to push gems, which are scattered around the map, on to certain designated areas.

I lost the original source a while ago, so only the bin is provided.
